X-rays for Kids

X rays at Puyallup Pediatric DentistryX-rays are a primary tool for early identification of dental problems. Detecting issues with x-rays before they become problems can save you money in the long run by preventing the need for more extensive, expensive procedures or surgeries. X-rays are primarily used to detect:
•  Internal tooth decay
•  Cysts (fluid filled sacks at the base of your teeth)
•  Tumors, both cancerous and non-cancerous
•  Impacted teeth
•  Teeth that are still coming in
•  Diagnose bone diseases
•  Evaluate the results of an injury
•  To plan orthodontic treatment

For children with a high risk of tooth decay, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends x-rays and examinations every six months. On average, most pediatric dentists request x-rays approximately once a year. It's a good idea to obtain a complete set of x-rays, either a panoramic or periapicals and bitewings, approximately every three years.

At Puyallup Pediatric Dentistry, we are particularly careful to minimize the exposure of children to radiation. The amount of radiation received in a dental x-ray examination is extremely smal with use of contemporary safeguards. Lead body aprons and shields will protect your child. Our equipment filters out any unnecessary x-rays and restricts the x-ray beam to the perticular area of interest.

My kids have been going to Dr. Hersey since they were little. They are now in middles school and we still love him! Highly recommend them!
